(G)I-DLE holds online press conference prior to their fiery album “I Burn” release

South Korean sextet (G)I-DLE, composed of Miyeon, Minnie, Soojin, Soyeon, Yuqi and Shuhua held an online press conference with the media prior to the release of their fourth mini album “I Burn”.

Before they went down to the nitty gritty of the album, the girls took the media through what went into it. There had been a patent change in the group’s style and concept for this album.

“I wore a wig to our previous activities so that my hairstyle would not be revealed before the album release”, says lead dancer Yuqi, who now spots an adorable bob hairdo. She likens her hairdo, which attracted compliments from her fellow bandmates, to a popular Korean snack — Choco Songyi.

Yuqi was not the only (G)I-DLE member whose hairdo underwent a huge transformation. Main vocalist Minnie changed her hair colour to dark red, a charismatic change from bright pink in the previous album “DUMDi DUMDi”.

But their hairstyle was not the only thing that was switched up. (G)I-DLE’s newest album shys away from their refreshing summer concept which fans saw last year, and will instead revolve around three main themes: winter, fire and flower this time. In that order.

The title number “Hwaa” is a moombahton track that features hints of oriental musical instruments.

Fans may notice that it bears some melodial resemblance to the sextet’s 2018 release “Haan”. And this was intended. Because “Haan”, “Hwaa”, and the album’s first track are conceptually linked.

(G)I-DLE wants to convey the various sombre and heavy emotions that one may experience through a heartbreak in their upcoming album. But off the record, they have some light-hearted wishes for the new year.

“My wish is to have a world tour this year”, says leader Soyeon. (G)I-DLE’s world tour, which was slated for cities in Asia, Europe and the United States was unfortunately called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The girl group have also set their sights on clinching the top spot on music charts and shows.
