South Korean Singer Kang Daniel Suffers From Depression, To Go On Hiatus

Evidently, this year is not the year for the Korean entertainment industry.

In mid-October, Sulli, former member of girl group f(x), was found dead. Fast forward a month, Goo Hara, a fifth of the now-defunct KARA, was also found dead at home.

Goo was Sulli’s close companion.

Just yesterday, it was reported that current SURPRISE U member and rookie actor Cha In Ha was found dead.

This morning, South Korean media Sports Seoul released an exclusive.

But it would be a hard pill to swallow for fans of Kang Daniel.

The 22 year-old singer was slated to appear on MBC’s “Show! Champion”, which was set to happen later today.

According to Korean portal allkpop, one insider told media outlets, “Today’s recording schedule has been cancelled. All of his upcoming schedules are currently unconfirmed.”

Kang clinched first place in the Mnet’s survival reality show “Produce 101 Season 2”, but his journey in the showbiz was not a bed of roses.

After the disbandment of Wanna One, Kang was also engulfed in disputes with previous entertainment label, LM Entertainment. This was prior to the establishment of his current label, KONNECT Entertainment.

Earlier this year, we’ve been greeted with news of Kang dating Park Ji-hyo, a member of TWICE. While comments from netizens were mostly positive, they have been under media scrutiny ever since.

Kang recently dropped his digital single Touchin’, which won him first place on SBS’ “The Show”.

Netizens had their fair share of comments, too. Some claimed that the results were rigged in his favour, causing a commotion.

It is clear that recent events are taking a toll on his mental health. Kang was diagnosed with depression and panic disorder earlier this year.

His label, KONNECT Entertainment have released an official statement.

“We came to a decision that it is right to take a break in consideration of future activities,” the agency said.

While it is unclear when Kang will be back for promotions, we wish him a speedy recovery.
